Movie talk 27

It has been a very long summer and a very hard time. But we did manage watch some films besides a trip to China.

The counterfeiters (Stefan Ruzowitzky) 7
Best foreign film of 2007 oscar - although I don't give any credit to oscar but it is probably among one of the worst best foreign films

Climates (Nuri Bilge Ceylan) 7
Technically it is good - but I still think Nuri is an over-acclaimed director. I am not crazy his famous [distant] either. Waiting to see his [Three monkeys]next week

Renegrade (Jan Kounen) 5
Sorry I forgot why I picked this film.

Crusing (Williams Friedkin) 8
Since when the New York has changed so much; especially its gay ideology. I never liked New York Gay Culture but the film is original, interesting and very well made

District 9 (Neill Blomkamp) 8
Brilliant movie. Sharp and original

71 fragments of a chronology of chance (Michael Haneke)
I like Michael's work, from his [Piano teacher] , [Cache] and [Funny games], all brilliant. But I couldn't finish this film - could be many reasons but I am looking forward to finishing up this one later and his new movie [The white ribbon]

An affair of love (Frederic Fonteyne) 7
Interesting idea and that is pretty much it

Brothers (Jim Sheridan) 7
Nothing to say about this movie - quite mediocre

The kids are all right (Lisa Cholodenko) 7
It IS a funny movie

Movie talk 26

The Raspberry Reich (Bruce La Bruce) 6
Not as interesting as expected

The ice storm (Ang Lee) 8
Great story and directing - long time overlooked. One of Ang lee's bests.

Regular lovers (Philippe Sarrel) 8
A bit lengthy start but finally get to the "regular"

II Divo (paolo sorrentino) 8
Would score higher unless there are too many characters to remember...

Times and Winds (Reha Erdem) 9
The typical childhood - just as most of people experienced in their lives.

Three monkeys (Reha Erdem) 8
Aren't human beings like monkeys?

Gomorrah (Matteo Garrone) 8
It is inevitably and incredibly easy to shape someone's life.

How green is my valley (John Ford) 6
Not too interested in this style of film although there are some good ideas in it.

Viaggio in Italia (Roberto Rossellini) 7
It seems too easy to me the breakup and getback happening so fast...

Central Station (Walter Salles) 8
Remind me of Brazil - I long to live there.

Pi (Darren Aronofsky) 6
A lot of script doesn't make too much sense.

Movie talk 25

It has been long. A lot of things happened and everybody is struggling. But hey we did watch some movies passing through difficult times...

Private fears and public places (Alain Resnais) 8
(It is a long long winter... people are desperate for love...)

The lovers (Louis Malle) 9
(Louis Malle made this film when he was 25)

The love of siam (Chukiat Sakveerakul) 7
(There are very few good gay themed films, this is a good one)

Tickets (Olmi, Kiarostami and Loach) 6
(A film made by three masters. Absolutely disappointing)

Natural born killers (Olive Stone) 9
(IMHO it is Stone's best film. I am so jealous that they found each other)

Fear and loathing in Las Vegas ( Terry Gilliam) 9
(Brilliant, witty and sophiscated)
