Taos, New Mexico

2/14/09-2/15/09

We chose to take a trip to celebrate Valentine's day. After a discussion of a selection of places around Colorado area, we chose Taos, New Mexico as our destination.

As planned, we directly headed to Red river cross-country ski area after a five hour drive through I-25 & Route 64. In 2 hours, we skied the longest black trail - of course with me lagging behind with many falls. It was a nice place, along the small hills under shades of pine trees, in a shiny day.

Taos has a lot of restaurants and hotels - it reminds me Gatlinburg in Tennessee when we were visiting Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We didn't get in the park at that time - It was winter and the park was closed. It is still vivid on my mind about Gatlinburg: 20 bucks hotel with loud air conditioner, all you can eat fried catfish...

After having a few margaritas in a local Mexican restaurant, we took a hot tub in our hotel. Soaking all the coldness out of our bodies, lassitude and sleepness controlled us.

Next day, we visited Rio Grande Gorge bridge - 650 feet above Rio Grande, the bridge is fifth highest bridge in the U.S. Finished in 1965, the bridge was awarded "most beautiful stell bridge" in the "long span" category by American Institute of Steel Construction.

On the way back to Denver, we took Route 522 and 160 back to I-25 - that led us to San Luis: the oldest town in Colorado. It is a great day: air is clear, sky is blue.
